1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. 3Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you– The sure mercies of David. Isaiah 55:1-3 NKJV
This passage from Isaiah is good for all those people that think following God makes for an unhappy, stoic life. God invites us to abundant life, filled with treasures. These treasures are not limited to our body, but also overflow into our soul and spirit. They are incomparably better than any temporal pleasure sin may bring. God actually stores up such treasures for those who follow him and fear him.
David wrote in Psalm 31:19: “How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.” I encourage you to read the above passage as God speaking to you. Do you live life striving for things that don’t matter in eternity? Are you wasting the resources God has blessed you with living life for nobody else but yourself? God offers you “living” water, water that satisfies your soul and brings contentment!
Jesus said, “whoever drinks of the water I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14 NKJV). Seek God and his leadership for your journey to freedom from sin. He stands ready to help you, love you, encourage you and delight you with true pleasures that never cease!
Questions for further thought:
How can our desire for tangible gratification inhibit our enjoyment of God’s spiritual treasures?
What was the “water” that Jesus was talking about in John 4:14 (above)?
What price did God require for the wine, milk and bread?
Prayer:
“Heavenly Father, thank you for making your abundant treasures freely available to me through the blood of Jesus. I confess that I have striven after things that have no value in eternity (list them). Please forgive me for not setting my mind on the things above, where you are seated with Jesus at your right hand. Lord I desire the living water of the Holy Spirit to permeate my being. Please revive me and fill me afresh with your Spirit. Help me to live for you every day. Thank you, Lord! I praise you now and forever. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
